DEMETRIOS GEORGE JAMESON

Italian Painter, Sculptor and Ceramist
Demetrios Jameson, Professor Emeritus, was a leading artist in the Northwest School and American Modernism. He studied with Max Beckmann at Washington University in St. Louis. His work shows elements of German Expressionism. He was a Navy combat artist during World War II, and came to Oregon in 1950. From 1950 until his retirement in 1982, he was professor of art at Oregon State University in Corvallis. He also taught at the Museum Art School in Portland and represented a later period of Oregon Modernism. Jameson exhibited throughout the United States and won awards in St.Louis, Denver, Seattle, and Portland.
